Behr Paint Chips

If you have never used Behr paint before, you should definitely give it a shot. Visit the Home Depot's website for more information on Behr paint.

I love their paint chips. They are so much easier to use than any other paint chips I have found.

As you can see, they come pre-punched! They also supply these little rings to keep them all nice and organized.

Seriously, easiest thing ever. Definitely go check this out.

Peace.

Resources for Interior Design Students

This week starts the fourth week of me being an Interior Design student. As I am starting my first major project, I've realized there are hundreds of resources that will send FREE samples right to your door.

Over the next few weeks I'm going to compile a list of all the places I find useful. I've probably ordered samples from 30 different places now. I can't wait until these boxes start arriving at my front door!

I will definitely share my experiences with each manufacturer.

Peace :)

Sourdough Bread Starter Day 4 and 5

Hello!

Sorry for the long break in between posts about my starter!

Day 4: Add another half cup of flour and half cup of water. Mix thoroughly.

Day 5: Throw your starter in the fridge! It is ready to use!

Whenever you take any starter out, replace it with the same amount of flour and water... So if you use a cup of starter, add a cup of flour and a cup of water.

Make sure to refresh your starter weekly!

Happy baking!

Bacon Wrapped BBQ Shrimp

Get ready for the best homemade shrimp recipe you have ever had. The best part? It is easy to make.

This is much easier if you have 2 people working on it, but you wouldn't have to. One person could brush the BBQ sauce on, the other can wrap with bacon and put the toothpicks through the shrimp.

Here is what you need:
16 (or more, more is always better) large shrimp, peeled and deveined
8 Slices of bacon
Plenty of BBQ sauce (whatever kind you would like)
Toothpicks

Here is what you do:
1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. Cover a cookie sheet with aluminum foil and grease it.
2. Cover the shrimp with BBQ sauce using a brush.
3. Cut bacon into halves or 3rds.
4. Wrap bacon around shrimp and secure with a toothpick.
5. Cook for 15-20 minutes.

Make sure the bacon doesn't overcook, but the shrimp are done.

Peace.

Sourdough Bread Starter: Day 3

Today's day 3!

If you missed day 1 or day 2, make sure to check them out!

Today is easy again. Just add a half cup of flour and a half cup of filtered water. Then stir it in really well.

Easy enough!

See you tomorrow!

Recipe: Garlic Cheesy Bread

A few weeks ago I made this Garlic Cheesy Bread.
Simply put, it was amazing.

Garlic Cheesy Bread

What you will need:
1 cup warm water
1 tbsp honey
1 envelope active dry yeast
1 tsp salt
3 cups bread flour
canola oil to grease surfaces
3-4 slices provolone cheese
1/2 cup butter
dash of garlic powder

What to do:
1. Stir water, honey, and yeast together in a medium size mixing bowl. Let this mixture sit for at least 5 minutes. You want to make sure you give the yeast plenty of time to become active.
2. Stir in salt and then the flour in 1/4 cup increments (trust me, your arm will start hurting by the 2nd cup). Let sit again for 5 minutes. It's going to start rising already.
3. Grease the mixing bowl and the dough. Then cover the bowl with a clean towel.
4. Let the dough rise for an hour. Don't peek. It is tempting, I get it. Just don't do it. Okay? Keep yourself busy. You could make sure you have a cookie sheet ready to go and then check Facebook. Play a game. Go play in traffic. Just don't lift the towel.
5. After you have waited the hour, punch down and then divide dough in two equal pieces.
6. Roll each piece into a baguette shape. You can try to twist them to make them pretty, but it's not necessary.

7. Cover the entire cookie sheet with plastic wrap and set it on top of your oven for 30 minutes with the oven preheating to 375 degrees. Then reduce the temperature to 350, take the plastic wrap off the cookie sheet, and bake for 20 minutes.
8. While the bread is baking, melt the butter and add the garlic powder. Do as much or as little as you would like.
9. Pull the bread out after 20 minutes. Brush the buttery garlic mixture onto the bread liberally. Then bake another 7 minutes.

My bread got a little lopsided. Try to make your dough as even as possible when rolling it out.

10. Cool the bread for 15-20 minutes (you want to be able to handle it comfortably). Then cut slits every inch or so going about 3/4 of the way through. Use a bread knife if you have one. It will be much easier.
11. Spread more of the buttery garlic mixture on the bread. Make sure you get in the slits you cut really well.
12. Break up the provolone cheese slices and put in the slits in the bread.
13. Bake another 5-7 minutes. The cheese should be just starting to brown. Serve warm.

Sourdough Bread Starter: Day 1

Hello!

Today I started my very own Sourdough Starter! If you don't know what a starter is, it's a mixture you keep in your refrigerator for when you are making Sourdough bread. Whenever you take any out to use, you replenish it. If you go a week without using it, you "refresh" it with flour and water. The thought of that has always terrified the germ-o-phobe inside of me. However, I finally sucked it up and decided the Sourdough Bread Bowls were worth it. Take that Panera!

I got my starter recipe from theKitchn. I chose to throw in a pinch of store bought yeast, just to add a little insurance.

It's been about 5 hours since I mixed everything up. Right now, it looks kind of like think pancake mix with little bubbles forming.

All I did was:

1. Find a seal able container that will hold 3-4 quarts.
2. Put a 1/2 cup of filtered water in the container.
3. Add a 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour.
4. Whisk until the flour is completely saturated with water.
5. Add a "pinch" of yeast.
6. Mix thoroughly again.
7. Seal the container up tight.

Some of the tips I've found across the internet are:
*Don't keep your starter in a metal bowl. Metal bowls will kill the yeast because they absorb the heat from the mixture.
*Keep your starter refreshed at least once a week. Think of it as a house plant that you must water or it will die.
*If someone wants to make their own starter, you can give them a cup of yours. Just make sure you replenish however much you give them.

Look for tomorrow's update on my starter!

Comment if you have any advice or are making your own starter!

Happy baking!
